About Dr. Guinther

Paul Guinther, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist who helps adults reduce their suffering and live more fulfilling lives. He addresses chronic physical pain using research-supported Pain Neuroscience Education. He also uses other compassionate and evidence-based therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help people overcome trauma, process grief, and find peace with difficult feelings of anxiety and depression. He can help you develop mindfulness skills to stay present (your anchor) and help clarify your personal values so you have direction in life (your arrow). Dr. Guinther wants to help you find your “anchor and arrow” so you can learn to more fully embrace a life of meaning and purpose.

Paul grew up in Colorado Springs where he earned a master’s degree in experimental psychology from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. He earned his doctorate degree in clinical psychology from the University of New Mexico, held his internship at the George E. Wahlen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Utah, and moved to Oregon to complete extensive postdoctoral training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy at Portland Psychotherapy. As the managing member of Anchor and Arrow Behavioral Health, he now collaborates with psychological researchers worldwide and offers psychotherapy in our local community to help people find new ways of living well. You can view his curriculum vitae here.

Outside of clinical work and research, Paul enjoys spending time with his family, getting out into nature, and traveling. He also enjoys dabbling in music and other arts, and is known to binge watch science fiction.
